In this new PSA for the organization ThinkB4YouSpeak.com ( The gays like to start a new ‘org’ about once a week), Hilary Duff makes a point about the dangers of using the phrase ‘that’s so gay’ to mean ‘that’s so stupid/ugly/etc.’

Hhhhmmm….damn. Thanks Hil. I guess this means I have to stop using the phrase “that’s so Duff.” when I hear bad music. OOO OOOUUUCCCHH, YEAH I SAID IT! I kid. I kid.

Seriously though this is one even my gay ass struggled with. Everyone said it in high school and it took me awhile to really think about the ill effects it has. Occasionally I will still say it, but it will be just around my gay friends or those that understand my slightly ironic, slightly taking ownership, slightly just for impact usage of it. I’m not one who likes to make a habit of censoring or trying to erratic the usage of certain words (because I feel it’s then that we give them the most power) but for this phrase it comes down to how many closeted depressed kids and teens hear this phrase being used constantly. Anything that contributes negatively to that personal struggle I would like to see go away.

So this news doesn’t really shock anyone except maybe a few of those Claymates that fervently denied Clay being gay for years. C’mon, this kid lived in a glass closet the size of Epcot center!
